I am the Creative Director/Troublemaker of our super tiny, but superhard working company. The „German Arm“ if You will.
2 Svenska, one German welded together by this mission, this exercise in style and function.
Let me go back in time.
We „virtually met“ in late 2016 motivated by the goal to bring a follow up to the spoiled child:
the original Tesla Aero wheel.
This uncool neglected brainchild.
Looking like someone slapped it on the car last second to achieve the 300miles range (or nothing) which were set in stone by the commander in chief ca. 2009.
Here´s some folklore, info @ 4:16min.
Alex started it on the German Tesla Forum, I joined then through an „aero wheel“/efficiency discussion, we resonated, found each other and started this „enthusiast project"
Something Tesla IMHO developed/slapped on the car last second back then to achieve their proclaimed 300miles range (or nothing) by the commander in chief.
Never met the aesthetics of a beautiful Turbine or Arachnid wheel, and was buried alive soon after. Tho nowadays a cult wheel gaining almost its original sales price (guess in Sweden same thing)

Fremont never came to the table with a 2.0.
Tesla seemed to prioritize other things.
Naturally we went for the Tesla Turbine 21“ at this time. A true beauty only possible through the endless talented hands of Franz von Holzhausen and his team. Unmatched. An instant classic as the Americans label those rare breeds.
Even the new Sonic Carbon Twin Turbine is aesthetically a step back from the original. Too slim lacking the raw sexy strength of its predecessor..
But it´s getting dated. And the consumption is high caused by the massive steamboat like blades and the asymmetric design.
Tesla has all the money to go symmetric with its wheels.
Why they saved a mere $20000 for a cast for will remain forever their mystery.
We analyzed everything that ever was published.
Hundreds of concept cars, streamline „Raymond Loewy designed“ locomotives from the 30s, planes, nature, even German Coal excavators like these:
"Whatever You do, make it beautiful“™
the mantra, the catch phrase from Elon Musk leading his teams.
The best guideline possible bringing out the best in his designteam.
From the Rockets, to the Power Packs, the Semi, the new Roadster, the superchargers to the apparel.
What Jonathan Ive was to Steve Jobs is Franz to Elon.
Hence:
We MUST we be beautiful. First and foremost. We cannot comprise the Model S design. Or we have no case.
Efficiency without beauty is nothing (I´m sounding like an advertiser here, sorry).
How can we come over super desirable, not ruining the perfect proportions of Franz mindset yet still be functional AND efficient?
How can we top this high level.
21 inches.
The king of appearance and "outer skin conciseness" (Porsche lingo) for the Model S.
22" for the Model X that is.
A contradiction in itself since we are from the start in a more difficult position then if we would´ve gone 19“.
We worked all throughout 2017 perfecting our (prototype) craft.
From 3D printing (which wasn´t sufficient on a big diameter like a wheel) to milling.
Found our proportions and shapes since the car oozes them. In the taillight lamp. The louvre intake form, even the rear mirrors. A delicate play of a parallelogram shaved by a combination of convex and concaves leading to a perfect „D“ as a hole.
You will recoginize it once You see it.
Made 10 prototypes improving successively to the point, that in late 2017 we invited the most vocal southern Germany „Tesla diehard fans“, since we didnt want to cookin our own soup. We hate the word focus group but we love the term design affecionados.
A litmus test and feedback/input, in addition implementing especially the substancial input from our few but super taste savvy female owners caring much more for a holistic surface and a visually perfect material mix and haptic then us, more technically focused men.
Our goal:
match the beauty of the 21“ Turbine yet achiving and surpassing the efficiency.
Full focus on Model S in the first phase.
Match the efficiency of a Slipstream standard rim on the way of rivaling a 19“ wheels efficiency.
Visually be THAT refined that even the "pre facelift" MS look updated.
And it looks we managed our hard homework.
We wrestled down this contradiction to a super appealing character. Sexy as hell, sensual yet agressive and sleek. In true Apple and Braun sense.
Some of You witnessed our unicorns already.
Our milled monoblocks made by the similar machines like an Apple unibody approach.
Forged, symmetrical and in the future easily scalable to Model X/Model 3 specifications.
Speaking of Model X- we were urged by some MS owners who also have a MX to bring this to their platform. And we will try in a second step.
But doing this now stretches our financials and capabilities. We do not aim for manufacturing hell
We start with three surfaces. KISS (keep it simple son) like the Model 3 approach.
To be honest we cannot afford more so we boiled the choices down to the best:
• hardened dark anthracite, almost light black. Think the back of Your cooking ware or your familiar Bullerjan Oven https://www.google.com/search?client=sa ... 8&oe=UTF-8
Hardcore yet sensual. Contradictions at work.
• graphite super gloss. A toney dark silver. Not fully as dark as the Tesla Sonic Carbon but coming straight from the Aston Martin/McLaren color selection. Call it „Gloss Stealth“ if You will.
Super elegant.
• Pure crystalline Alu. A timelss classic. Think Your MacBook surface, even a bit rougher. After the milling the wheel is sandblasted to remove the sharp deburring cut lines and to smoothen out the padlike sections. We discovered this "sandblast tone" by accident since our "Italian Family ex Forumula one Team owner hardcore handcraft think watchmaker“ missed the timeline once.
So we saw the raw unti and were blown away by its purity and presence. We will offer this 1x completely unlackered so that the fans can laquer and cutomize it to their individual needs and 1x with a hard durable coating supporting the pure character.
My personal favorite.
"Il Puro" as our guys say. Bare to the max.
Since no other wheelmaker takes care of the section around the center cap, maximum these guys sport is a silver ring, we decided to push the limits on this one.
We show a huge surface on a 21“ so we can play the material mix like on super expensive accessories, bikes or Phones. Great product design OUTSIDE the wheel sector.
We re- introduce a simple old Handwerkstechnik (German, You get the wording) called Knurling. Think Your favorites tools grip.
Even a gungrip ;-oops sorry
But this time we enhance and modernize it with a coating of dark chrome or straight polished alu.

This contradicts the aforementioned wonderful colors and we get a high end impression of super fine handcraft.
A jewel like impression full of mysteriosity and soul once the car is standing in the street.
Now speaking of the center cap.
Of course we have our own Logo. Orwe could print TNA™
It looks shostopping. But we never belive in Logos (except from one car company), or 3 digit blatant failed trials of the alphabet and all those eyesoring third party attempts looking sporty, cheap and sub-par.
It´s not about us. We strongly belive if You match your craft people will understand it. They will see our rim standing in the streets, at the superchargers, in Your garages.
People will understand it from the guts. They feel it. It´s deeply rooted within us.
So we made the diameter of the center hole in a way that You can alternatively clip ín Your original Tesla logo. The only choice. Maybe we don´t even include our centercap but instead give You a voucher for You to order ours for free but force You in the meatime to the original cap,
since the „classic combo" is a winner and looks straight from the mothership.
We even thought about a „insert original“ labeled cap like those guys do it ATM:

Our final steps at the moment:
• we will verify our phantastic 9% ++„virtual efficiency results“ done by EXA, the guys who supported Tesla back the on the Project White Star (Model S) in the real world via a pro circuit under replicable parameters with the same car. Same conditions.

• photos are next. Better ones than what Tesla does.
• we will listen to Your pricing opinions, even if it doens´t allow us a huge margin on the first 50 wheel sets.
• You will see the product via Alex exclusive sneek peak roadshow.
• You will love it.
Why we are a bit „secretive“ ATM:

Is it in theory +9.9% range on X too? That would mean going from 285 in 110 to a 260. That would be awesome. Or is it 9.9% with 22” så from 350 to 315 (Which would be awesome, but less so)

We have to verify all that in real life.
We could be even more efficient if we would´ve closed the design even more and made steeper changes, but we decided for LOOKS first and foremost.
A disc is what some guys make here in Germany. Super efficient but too "plain" and generic looking, see image attached.
You find us on a cirquit near You or in Germany soon. Maybe we make a documentation.
But again,"X" is depedant on "S" success
Good thing, if we don´t overtax the wheel (max load on X) we can swap the 21" on the "X" and have a rough first impression an that is what we´ll do (@Alex Your "X"maybe?)

It is 9,9% reduction of aero friction. To translate this to range you have to scroll back to the chart I posted from Tesla (page 7 in this thread). In this chart, reduce the aero part with one tenth. Why not sell some sort of hubcaps to make the wheel in to a "disc" to use when you're on a long trip and need the extra range?Sharpie skrev:We have to verify all that in real life.

A disc is what some guys make here in Germany. Super efficient but too "plain" and generic looking, see image attached.

But again,"X" is depedant on "S" success
Good thing, if we don´t overtax the wheel (max load on X) we can swap the 21" on the "X" and have a rough first impression an that is what we´ll do (@Alex Your "X"maybe?)
