Kia Imagine (Kia CV) could have a Porsche ‘Taycan’ in a drag race

Expected with Phase-2 UVO Connect infotainment system
A few months ago, Kia released information on Phase-2 of the UVO Connect system that will be installed on new models in a staggered fashion. EVW believes the same update would be available to the Kia CV crossover that launches next year.
UVO connect is Kia’s in-car media system and infotainment software that offers features like Android Auto, Navigation, Music streaming, Maintenance and diagnostic tools, Roadside assist and security which are integrated in Kia vehicle’s touchscreen display and also accessible through an Android device or iPhone app. For the 2020 lineup of cars, Kia has updated its UVO connect system with Phase-2 of its features that are added on top of the existing ones available in UVO:

1. Online Navigation
This feature uses real-time cloud-based traffic data to accurately predict traffic movements. This can be useful for customers who can now plan their journey times and the estimated time of arrival with more accuracy. This is significantly different and better than the traditional traffic prediction tools which only uses its in-car route for planning and traffic levels based on previous data.

2. Augmented navigation
Traditional navigation systems will guide you till the destination you provide and most of the time, that destination is still further away from where you finally need to go. This is due to constraints like the lack of parking spaces or the actual inability of the car to physically reach the place. Kia’s new ‘Last Mile Navigation’ feature continues to provide you navigation even after you park your car by seamlessly transitioning over to the UVO connect app in your smartphone. Once the vehicle is parked, this new feature sends a push notification to the smartphone and continues the guidance using Google Maps navigation to complete your journey on foot. Next Kia gives users an option to engage an augmented reality function or ‘AR Guidance’, which uses the smartphone’s camera and provides turn-by-turn directional arrows using its AR functions.

3. Transferring profiles between Kia cars
This feature of the UVO update will let customers check and change their vehicle settings directly from their smartphone, including navigation, radio and Bluetooth preferences, at their convenience. When you hop onto your vehicle after someone’s used it, smartphone device pairs to the UVO connect system in the car via the UVO app and customers are synced back to their preferred settings, saving time and making each journey more enjoyable. It also lets Kia owners back-up their in-vehicle UVO settings to the cloud and lets you transfer these settings to a different Kia vehicle.

4. Range of features to enhance connectivity and usability
To enhance the UVO connect experience further, Kia is developing a ‘Valet Parking Mode’ as part of the Phase-2 update. Customers can monitor their vehicle remotely when someone else drives their car as well as protecting personal data in the system such as navigation locations. This lets them locate the car’s current location, its usage time, distance travelled and the current speed on the UVO App. This will give the owner full control of his vehicle.
Kia will also use its ‘best-in-class’ data providers for its Kia Live Services, giving customers more accurate information. It comes with a host of features like providing traffic information, availability of parking spaces, fuel stations and their pricing and EV charging points to plan journeys in electric Kia vehicles, weather reports and speed camera information in some regions. Together, these features provide all-round support to the user to ensure a pleasant journey.
In May, Kia Motors Europe confirmed that its first dedicated electric vehicle, built on a unique platform (E-GMP), would boasts of “world-leading” EV technologies and powertrain.

Emilio Herrera, Chief Operating Officer at Kia Motors Europe says the Old Continent is the focal point for electric vehicle sales (sales of EVs grew this year despite the Coronavirus lockdown) and every year of the last 5 years, the company has reported growing sales of EVs with the e-Niro and e-Soul models.

Kia Imagine ‘e-GT’ to offer Porsche Taycan-level acceleration
Kia’s all-new electric SUV based on the Imagine concept will be a high-performance product. A British report in May suggested that the electric car will offer Porsche Taycan level of performance in its range-topping variant.

In an interaction with AutoExpress.co.uk, Emilio Herrera, COO, Kia Motors Europe has said that Kia Motors is planning a performance variant of the new EV which is known as the Kia CV internally. The performance variant will be able to launch from 0 to 100 km/h in under 3 seconds, pushing the Imagine into Porsche Taycan territory. The performance-oriented EV is the result of Kia’s partnership with Croatian electric car specialist Rimac. The EV will have the same 800V battery technology offered on the Taycan and will support 350 kW fast-charging.
