BYD Introduces 800V E-Platform 3.0 And New EVs: EA1, X DREAM.

Let's get into the details, starting with the new e-platform 3.0, which, according to the Chinese manufacturer, is designed for the next generation of high-performance smart EVs.

In the e-platform 3.0 we can find affordable BYD Blade Battery LFP chemistry in cell-to-pack (CTP) system (without modules), which is integrated into the vehicle structure. The largest battery pack options should translate into a range of up to 600 miles (965 km) NEDC, probably closer to 400-450 miles (644-724 km) in the real world.

The battery system will be 800 V, which will increase the overall efficiency, as well as allow to fast charge very quickly: 5 minutes to replenish 90 miles (145 km) at the peak.

There is a new 8-in-1 module for the drive system for outstanding performance (0-60 mph in 2.9 seconds) and a new heat pump to minimize range loss from heating in winter.

The key highlights of the new platform are:

BYD’s self-developed vehicle operating system (expandable, upgradeable, and fully open to developers)
key modules are smaller, lighter, stronger, and lower energy consumption
a new heat pump technology as standard
cruising range is "10% longer" in winter
a newly upgraded 8-in-1 module for the drive system
the overall efficiency increased to over 89%
power consumption per 100 km (62 miles) is "reduced by 10%"
2.9 seconds from 0 to 60 mph (96.5 km/h) acceleration possible
a comprehensive cruising range of up to 600 miles (965 km) possible (probaly NEDC)
800 V battery system
ultra-fast charging: 5 minutes to give it a range of 90 miles (145 km)
BYD's Blade Battery - lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) chemistry in a cell-to-pack (CTP) system - as standard
battery pack integrated into the vehicle’s structural design, doubling the torsional stiffness of the body
redefined design aesthetics of vehicles: "shorter front overhangs, wider wheelbase, lower center of gravity, more space, sense of movement and dynamics, as well as a drag coefficient (Cd) as low as 0.21"

Australia-bound BYD EA1 snapped with VW ID.3-style wheels.

Nexport plans to launch the BYD EA1 in July and begin customer deliveries in Q1 2022 (January-March 2022). The local importer will price the EA1 “well under AUD 35,000.” Its founder claims that the range of the new electric car is approximately 500 km, and its 0-100 km/h acceleration time is “less than 5.0 seconds.” BYD plans to make an EA1 variant offering higher performance as well, as per the report.

The BYD EA1’s platform is capable of a 1,000 km range, but the budget EV is expected with a 400-500 km range (NEDC).

BYD has built the EA1 on its new e-platform 3.0, and even though it is a small car meant for the city, it has a high level of specification. For example, the car supports 800-volt high-power chargers for rapid charging.

BYD calls e-platform 3.0 “the cradle of the next generation of electric vehicles.” It allows parameters like 2.9-second 0-100 km/h acceleration time, a 1,000 km range, and rapid-charging at a level powerful enough to gain a 150 km range in just five minutes.

Order books are slated to open on 1 July 2021, with the first customer deliveries promised during the first quarter of next year (January to March inclusive).

Blir BYD först med prisparitet med en fossilbil?

BYD Dolphin (EA1) is great inside and out.

Audi’s former design director Wolfgang Egger keeps doing an impressive job at BYD. Long gone are the days when most Chinese cars were ugly, and the ones that looked nice were carbon copies of Western cars.

Making BYD electric cars more appealing to European customers is now the main mission that the German design director has at hand. I have been warning Euro legacy automakers for some time that BYD wants to dominate the European EV market and this can happen sooner than most people think.

BYD is actually listening to what the EV community wants. For example, I have been contacted multiple times by BYD representatives, but this almost never happens with Western automakers.

Let’s compare the dimensions of the BYD Dolphin with the popular Renault ZOE and Nissan LEAF.

Even with its compact supermini size – that Europeans love – the BYD Dolphin has a wheelbase as long as the Nissan LEAF to maximize the interior space.

As for photos of the interior they are still scarse, but the ones that were recently released look extremely good.
The interior of the BYD Dolphin looks roomy, clean and modern. Hopefully, it’ll get a head-up display (HUD) to increase the driving safety.

The best thing about BYD is that it produces its own super safe and long-lasting LFP (LiFePO4) battery cells, therefore the production of its electric cars won’t suffer from battery supply constraints. Last month BYD sold 20.016 all-electric cars in China.

If as expected BYD sells the Dolphin globally with a price around 20.000 euros – without the need of government subsidies -, it’ll be the most important electric car we’ll see for a while. It’ll make almost every other electric car currently available look overpriced. It might even push Volkswagen to release the ID.2 with a LFP battery sooner than it is planned. Moreover, it’ll show Tesla the importance of an affordable compact electric car for the global market.

Anyway, the BYD Dolphin is the first electric car that could realistically compete with ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) cars in price and availability, reaching the top 10 of world’s best-selling cars. The Tesla Model 3 already reached the 16th place.

Let’s hope that BYD produces enough of them and doesn’t screw up. The Chinese automaker has a one-time opportunity to prove its value and make history before legacy automakers wake up.

BYD förväntas sälja ca 1.500 bilar i år i Norge.
Genom att etablera sig i Norge hoppas BYD på att förverkliga sin europeiska dröm och på sikt nå ut i hela Europa. I ett pressutskick berättar BYD att de första 100 BYD Tang nu lastas ombord ett fartyg för att säljas i Norge. Innan året är slut ska man leverera totalt 1500 elbilar till Norge och med det väcka intresse i övriga Europa.

BYD E6 är 7-sitsig och ska säljas i Australien till ett lägre pris än MG ZS EV.

Skulle motsvara ett pris i Sverige på ca 302.000kr.

Nexport – the Australian distributor for Chinese manufacturer BYD – has announced the new all-electric 2022 BYD E6 people mover for the local market, priced from $39,999 before on-road costs.

With deliveries of the BYD electric vehicle promised to begin before the end of August 2021, this price would make it the country’s cheapest electric car at launch, undercutting the $44,990 drive-away MG ZS EV. However, just 15 examples will initially be available.

The vehicle – which is based largely on the Chinese-market petrol-powered BYD Song Max seven-seater – derives power from a single 70kW electric motor mounted on the front axle. This draws energy from a 70kWh lithium-ion ‘Blade’ battery pack, permitting a claimed range of 400km.

The new model is not to be confused with a previous-generation E6, offered in Australia since 2016 for taxi fleets.

Pricing and specifications for the brand’s wider range – said to comprise at least four distinct models, including the "sub-$35,000" EA1 hatchback (bottom of story) and BYD T3 commercial van – will be confirmed “in approximately two weeks,” according to Luke Todd, the CEO of Nexport’s parent company TrueGreen Mobility.

Mr Todd had originally assured CarAdvice BYD order books would open on 1 July 2021, however this did not come to pass.

He claims a plan to broaden local operations caused the project to be delayed: "We have received extremely high levels of interest … This has caused us to evaluate potentially bringing even more models than first planned.

"Therefore we are bringing a very small batch of the next generation E6 to the Australian market to test the appetite for a multi-purpose vehicle

BYD Dolphin förväntas kunna ladda 15 mil på 5 minuter.
Och batterierna ska tydligen klara 1,2 miljoner km.




If the BYD Dolphin can really recover 150 km (93.2 miles) of range in only 5 minutes and there are enough fast chargers able to deliver that, a bigger battery pack might not be needed. However, it is essential to remember that the best way to charge a battery pack is with no rush. The good thing about the Blade Battery is that it can last for 1.2 million km (745,645.4 miles) under automotive use.
