Bra artikel om JB Straubels Redwood Materials. Det har inte direkt med Tesla att göra men Tesla kan säkert bli största kunden.

I’ve been told the following info:

Tesla 4680 yield is very good. They are still working on the throughput. Many variables at play: increasing speed uncovers simple engineering issues that need adjusting or fixing.

4680s have been in production for a long time now on the pilot line. Some 4680s are going to multiple testing facilities in US & Germany. Other 4680s are being used by the structural pack engineering team, rest are being stockpiled. It’s unknown how many they've stockpiled.

Initial 4680 production capacity installation at Giga Texas will be for around 500k vehicles per year. Let’s be clear, this is just the initial capacity. Capacity will increase over time, and quite significantly with added 4680 production lines, which are modular.

Tesla’s been very happy with the progress and they haven’t hit any major hurdles recently. All the FUD that 4680 design will fail/is bad, they will need to change the chemistry, production isn't anywhere close, etc. All that is completely wrong. What Tesla is accomplishing is [Exploding head]

Vore toppen om det stämde, då blir 2022/2023 intressant, kanske får 800km räckvidd på model s till sist!

Mycket intressant idag i Berlin kring 4680. Många var överens om innan att med tabless räcker det att kyla kortsidorna. Men Tesla visade ett pack som ser ut att ha liknande parallell kylning längs långsidorna som man har haft tidigare. Eftersom packen ser så lika ut är kanske produktionspack även fyllda av samma blå massa som 2170-packen.

Nu när Tesla vill rampa upp 4680 tillverkningen så säkerställer man att de ha tillräckligt med råvaror.
Tesla inks new nickel supply deal, inches closer to 4680 battery cell mass production.

Tesla’s goal of mass-producing its 4680 battery cells recently took a significant step forward on Wednesday, when New Caledonian miner Prony Resources announced that the EV maker had agreed to purchase 42,000 tonnes of nickel in a multi-year deal. Nickel is a key material that Tesla needs for its high-powered batteries, such as the 4680 cells that are currently in pilot production at the company’s Kato Road facility in Fremont, California.
In a statement, Prony noted that it is aiming to produce 44,000 tonnes of nickel by 2024, effectively doubling its estimated 2021 output. During a news conference, Antonin Beurrier, Prony’s chief executive, confirmed that Tesla is now the mining company’s largest client to date. While he did not specify any details of Prony’s deal with Tesla, Beurrier did state that the 42,000-tonne volume for the EV maker was indicative and could vary.

Jag tror att en stor anledning till Teslas batteridag den 22 september 2020 var att man ville förhandla ner priset på batteriköp.

Electric Viking gör bedömningen att av Teslas behov av ca 135GWh batterier under 2022, så kanske bara 10GWh kommer från egen 4680 produktion.

StoreDot pratar om 4680 batterier som kan ladda snabbt.

As Electrek previously reported, StoreDot announced in early September that it produced the first 4680 cylindrical cell that it claims can charge in only 10 minutes.
