Kia EV5

Kia EV1
Kia EV2
Kia EV3
Kia EV4
Kia EV5
Kia EV6
Kia EV7
Kia EV8
Kia EV9

Kia ‘EV5’ could be the commercial name of the Kia CV (production Kia Imagine) electric crossover. Recent trademark applications at the Korea Intellectual Property Office suggest that Kia Motors plans to have an alphanumerical nomenclature for dedicated EVs. Hyundai has already confirmed the same for its upcoming electric vehicles, the first of which will be the Ioniq 5 to be revealed in a few weeks.

Kia has filed trademark applications for the names starting in ascending order from Kia EV1 to Kia EV9. As the Kia CV will be a rival to the Hyundai Ioniq 5, EV5 logically is the right fit. However, Kia has filed trademark applications similarly for ‘Kia EK’ and ‘Kia IK’ name series as well, so we’ll have to see which one gets picked.

He reiterated what we already knew – that the car will have a range of around 500 km and a sub-20 minute fast charging time. The new EV is one of the 11 battery EVs Kia has planned to launch by 2025. According to Mr Kosowski, the electric vehicle will have a stunning and dramatic design, and is nothing like we have seen before.

The production CV should have at least the same specifications leaked on the Hyundai IONIQ 5, up to 550km (342 miles) of range, 313 horsepower and a 0 to 100km/h in 5.2 seconds. Compared to the IONIQ 5, Kia’s crossover will have a high performance variant confirmed by Albert Biermann, Head of R&D Division, who said they have set a goal to achieve up to 260 km/h and to have a 0-62mph (0-100km/h) of less than 3.5 seconds.

The first of Kia’s next-generation EVs will be introduced to Europe on April 2021, constructed on a unique platform specifically engineered to accommodate the car’s world-leading EV powertrain and technologies. Not only will it offer a crossover design which blurs the boundaries between passenger and sport utility vehicles, as well as a future-oriented user experience. It will also offer a single-charge driving range of over 500 kilometres, as well as sub-20-minute high-speed 800v charging time.

Kia CV to Be Showcased Before End of February?

Apparently and according to South Korean media TopRider, the reveal of Kia’s first dedicated EV or Kia CV, that will use Hyundai Motor Group’s new dedicated electric platform or E-GMP, alongside Hyundai’s IONIQ 5 and Genesis GV60 is closer than we thought. The crossover EV is expected to be showcased before the end of February while being released in South Korean in July.
