IBM 2nm chip-teknologi

IBM’s 2-nanometer (nm) chip technology puts 50 billion transistors, each the size of roughly five atoms, on a space no bigger than your fingernail. The landmark technology—the smallest, most powerful microchip ever developed—could quadruple the life of cell-phone batteries and slash the carbon footprint of data centers, among other things. Now the manufacturing competition is on. Samsung and the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. have announced plans to produce the chip by 2025, and in August, the U.S. and Japan unveiled a plan to build a joint research center focused on 2-nm tech.

Mikroskop och finfin pincett. Åsså gaffatape för att hålla ihop det.

Låter ju enkelt? som en bigmac!

” The term "2 nanometer" or alternatively "20 angstrom" (a term used by Intel) has no relation to any actual physical feature (such as gate length, metal pitch or gate pitch) of the transistors. According to the projections contained in the 2021 update of the International Roadmap for Devices and Systems published by IEEE Standards Association Industry Connection, a "2.1 nm node range label" is expected to have a contacted gate pitch of 45 nanometers and a tightest metal pitch of 20 nanometers.[5] However, in real world commercial practice, "
2 nm" is used primarily as a marketing term by the semiconductor chip fabrication industry to refer to a new, improved generation of silicon semiconductor chips in terms of increased transistor density (i.e. a higher degree of miniaturization), increased speed and reduced power consumption compared to the previous 3 nm node.”

https://spectrum.ieee.org/ibm-introduce ... -node-chip
"IBM claims this new chip will improve performance by 45 percent using the same amount of power, or use
75 percent less energy while maintaining the same performance level, as today's 7 nm-based chips. "
"The company anticipates that that 2-nm node could potentially reduce the carbon footprint of data centers. It estimates that if every data center changed their servers to 2-nm-based processors, it could save enough energy to power 43 million homes.
Closer to most of us is what IBM expects this to do our laptops and portable devices’ functions—including quicker processing in applications, easier language translation, and faster 5G or 6G connections.
For those who find daily phone charging annoying, 2-nm node chips will quadruple cell phone battery life vs. 7-nm node chips, which the company says could require users to charge their devices only every third or fourth day, rather than every night."
Insane.
