"The industry has been in a deep sleep for a long time and must now be awake quickly. Time is pressing. "In an interview with the Stuttgarter Zeitung, Porsche works councilor Uwe Hück talked about the omissions of the German auto industry regarding electromobility and digitalization. If the German manufacturers "do not react quickly" and "adapt to the change of times", then it is "like the photo makers Agfa or Kodak, the important trends simply slept and then have disappeared from the picture." Germany "had not seen change, although it had already begun. It was too long looked and hesitated ".
"We will not stop digitization, so we have to shape it," Hück said. "New drives and more and more computer-controlled technology in vehicles and factories will come," and they "must come". An important key to the new automotive reality is the training of its employees: "Here, employers have to invest the millions that are on some accounts into the qualification of their employees," for example, "to turn a motor specialist into a specialist for batteries" .
Like many other works councils in the automotive and supplier industries, Hück still struggles "that the battery cell is manufactured in Germany. We need production know-how with us, "and this starts with the battery cell, which has so far come exclusively from Japan and South Korea. "We should be convinced that we will have the entire value added of the car in Germany in the future." It is "wrong to make itself completely dependent on Asian manufacturers".
But also politics is "in duty" and "must create the conditions for change". At the moment "they do not always live up to responsibility". Heck are "the measures too timid and the implementation too slow".
